Some of my poetry

Farewell Father

Seeing dad lie in that coffin was difficult,

Until I reminded myself that he was not there;

Whether on some spiritual plain,

Or simply expired and shut off

The pumped-up body in that coffin

Only a vague reminder of what once shined.

The expressions of sorrow,

Expulsion of emotions,

Laying on of hands and saying farewell

All were cathartic to those present.

Our loss is profound,

The ceremony to say goodbye

Should also be profound.

He deserves no less.

Some Sin

I Get up early, rushing into the bathroom,
Shower quickly, then hastily brush my teeth;
Start coffee water heating, continue to groom,
Finally dressed, I gulp my coffee with relief.

Scan email, get breakfast eaten, hop in the car,
jostle into place on the freeway, race to work;
In a mad rush, though it's not really that far,
Feel compelled to speed, tailgated by a jerk.

Finally get parked, hike to the building,
Fish out my id card to appease the guard;
Hasten to the office, my ears now ringing,
Get clocked in, there that was not so hard.

Another day older, wrinkled, worn in,
Fantasize escape, relaxing, some sin!

Robots VS Humans

Metal machines do not need
Food, water or exercise;
Not moved by ambition or greed,
Nor pushed by enterprise.

No socializing nor psycology,
No basic human drives here,
Straightforward automaton technology
With a long-term mission clear.

Travel for years and years thru Space,
Arrive at your destination;
Seek evidence of extraterrestrial races,
Then transmit Earthward without hesitation.

Still, my heart yearns and wishes
Flesh and blood and grey matter --
Humans should experience space delicious,
People should climb the cosmic ladder.

Humanity saved from degredation,
Can finally find true inspiration.

CHICKEN AND RICE TO GO

Chinese rocket pierces the sky,
Sophistocated capsule reaches orbit;
Taking their share of Solar System pie,
Leaving the rest of us to absorb it.

Mission will follow mission,
Orbiting space labs coming next;
Well-laid plans coming to fruition,
New-found tech muscles flexed.

Eventually taikonauts will walk the Moon,
They will tread on Mars,
And then one day following soon,
China will head for the stars.

Good thing in space there is no air,
To smell the scents of all that cooking;
Beef, Chicken, Rice, Stir-fry without compare,
Would have all other astronauts out looking --
Their own poor rations evoking despair!

FEVER

Hotness in my head,
Thickness in my throat;
Face feels flushed and red,
Shivering in warmth, wanting a coat.

Crawling under a pile of covers,
Sweating until fever breaks;
Brings back memories of my mother,
Whos nursing helped past fevers escape.

Fatigue weighs down my every move,
Feeling the need to sleep;
Hard to stay in the work groove,
Responsibilities promise to keep.

One day this too will pass,
I'll soon be feeling chipper,
Will be healthy at last,
Ready to tear a ripper.
Bodys amazing capacity to self-heal,
Has humanities' universal appeal.

AUTUMN

Tomato vines browned and shriveling,
Shrunken fruits providing feast for insects;
Squash and watermelon also withering,
Rustling leaves surround and protect.

Batchelor Buttons tan in crisp fall sun,
Skimpy stems stutter in a breeze;
Petunias still colorful and fun,
Will endure right through a freeze.

Green grapevine leaves looking sickly,
Lillies of the valley laying limp;
Even Cannas begin to look icky,
Tiring Mums blooms looking wimpy.

Brave Blackeyed Susans stand aflutter,
Four'o'clocks growing blooms still;
Flower beds spurt and sputter,
Full of leaves, twigs, flowers killed.
Soon trees present last color showing,
Until next April when it quits snowing.

TREKKIN

Starship flitting through black void,
Out amongst trillions of stars;
Encounters with aliens they cannot avoid,
Friendly and hostile, near and far.

Captain always resourceful and wise,
No matter what predicament may arise;
In the end they gain their prize,
Often leads to an enemy's demise!

Helpful first officer, daring and bold,
Attacking problems with gusto;
Not afraid to break the mold,
Toss Starfleet Regs if they must.

Ship's doctor bestows insights and heals,
Counsels Captain and crew;
Sometimes a solution reveals,
When the entire bridge is a zoo.

Someday mighty Enterprise will dock,
Federation shipyards somewhere near Earth;
Mission Complete to last interstellar rock,
Her stories will be told with mirth.
Archer, Janeway, Picard, Kirk and Spock --
Experiences shared for all they are worth.

Beyond

Beyond my control,
SUV's barging thru traffic;
Taking their toll,
My swearing is graphic.

Hair in mirror greying,
Body recording time's march,
It is getting so dismaying,
Aching pains when muscles arch.

Friends and acquaintances smile and talk,
Co-workers also socialize freely,
Negatives start as I turn and walk,
Wondering if they said that really?

They keep repeating the same lies,
Hurtful half-truths, biting labels,
Most of the time I do not cry,
But happy living becoming a fable.

All part of some master plan?
Beyond my control, beyond my ken,
Why torture this middle-aged man,
Whisper untruths again and again?

What is to be gained,
What possible benefit,
By driving me insane,
Whenever they see fit.

Grabbing moments of pleasure,
Savoring them fully,
Brings life's sole treasures,
Can briefly forget the bullies.
